After decades of scientific reports and inaction at the federal level, a new and diverse movement for action to stop global climate change is taking its message to the streets. On April 14, in Massachusetts alone, there will be 113 different actions calling on Congress to cut carbon dioxide emissions 80% by 2050.

Heath to hold community gathering on global warming

On Saturday April 14, community members will hold meet on the Heath Town Common at 1:00 pm to discuss taking action on the crisis of climate change. Organizers say that climate change will have intense effects on people all over the world and future generations.

Easthampton cyclists call for cleaner air and a cooler planet

In Easthampton, the People-Powered Parade will walk, run, bike, skate, skip, jump, just not drive, their way at 4pm from the Cottage Street City parking lot to Manhan Cafe for films, snacks, and conversation. Organizers hope that the large number of people enjoying alternative means of transportation will inspire others to use their cars less and cut their emissions.

The six members of the Envirothon Team, all seniors, are preparing exhibits and demonstrations that will help explain the relationship of energy use to global warming. They will emphasize what we can do to save energy (and money) in our every day lives, and to slow the global warming process.

Amherst residents call on Congress to cut Carbon by 80% by 2050

Step It Up 2007 and Greening the Roadways Festival

Come and see “green vehicles” and learn about grease cars at the Hitchcock Center from 1 – 3 pm. At 3pm those vehicles will accompany a parade to Hampshire College joined by citizens on foot, bike, horse, baby buggy, or public transportation. At 4 pm festivities will continue at Hampshire College. Participate in creating recycled art, eat food, hear music, see films and listen to speakers. At 8 pm bands will deliver high powered music kicked off by Blackberry Jam, an awesome group of rockers from Wildwood elementary school.

Greenfield Rally & Presentation: Climate Crisis: 1001 Solutions

Saturday, April 14, 12:00-1:30pm, Solar Store, downtown Greenfield, between Antonio’s Pizza and Mesa Verde Greenfield residents concerned about climate change will rally and ask Congress to Step it Up and make a commitment to cut CO2 emissions by 80% by 2050. The event will feature a presentation on global warming solutions, a discussion, and a group photo that will be posted on the Step It Up campaign web site. The event is part of Greenfield Energy Committee’s Greening Greenfield campaign.

Williamstown interfaith rally to illustrate climate crisis

The façade of the church will be decorated to illustrate a graph of the dramatic spike in carbon emissions in the last hundred years— with the final point extending 60 feet to the church’s steeple. The event will feature music by student performers from Williams College and Mount Greylock Regional High School, and opportunities for people to take action to fight climate change.
