Community Members, Supporters Parade in Roxbury for Environmental Justice

What:
A environmental justice parade with colorful puppets to call attention to environmental contamination in Roxbury, the threat of the BU bioweapons lab, and the bioweaponry agenda of the Biotechnology Industry Organization.

When and Where:
Sunday, May 6
-11:00 AM - 1:00 PM: Parade starts at Dudley Commons (Across from 339 Dudley St.)
-1:00- 4:00 PM: Gather in Blackstone Park (Washington and W. Newton Sts.)

International Experts in Boston to Challenge Biotechnology Industry

BOSTON – Independent scientists and representatives of farmers’ movements from as far away as Bangladesh are coming to Boston this weekend to challenge the biotechnology industry on the eve of their annual convention. They will be participating in a series of public events under the umbrella of Biojustice 2007.

From Biodevastation to Biojustice: A brief history

This year’s Biojustice events in Boston continue a series of international grassroots gatherings on issues of genetic engineering and corporate dominance over our food and health that began seven years ago in St. Louis. Since May of 1999, most of these gatherings have coincided with the annual convention of BIO, the Biotechnology Industry Organization.

What is the Biotechnology Industry Organization?

The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) is the world’s largest biotechnology lobbying organization, representing over 1100 corporations, university departments, and state biotechnology centers from their headquarters in Washington, DC. In 2004, former Pennsylvania congressperson James C. Greenwood was appointed as the organization’s second president.

BioJustice 2007 Responds to Biotechnology Industry

BOSTON -- A major public gathering on biotechnology is coming to Boston in early May, but this one won't be attended by representatives of biotechnology firms. BioJustice is a week-long series of teach-ins, workshops, protests, marches, and celebrations being organized as a counterpart to the Biotechnology Industry Organization's International (BIO) international convention. Organizers of BioJustice criticize the biotechnology industry's activities in agriculture, medicine, and bioweaponry, and say that better alternatives are available.
